Summary: | Discussed are developments in official linguistic policy in Quebec during the 1960s. During this period, legislative efforts had six major objectives: (1) rejection of bilingualism for Francophone citizens, (2) redistribution of economic power, (3) establishment of lang standards for school & workplace, (4) protection of the consumer, (5) establishment of a "French" image for Quebec, & (6) development of respect for the Eng-speaking minority. Although the French lang has an established official position in Quebec, efforts to promote true bilingualism in the rest of Canada have largely failed. 15 References. B. Annesser Murray |
