Summary: | The magnetic susceptibility of hydrogen-doped Zr sub 67 Co sub 33 metallic glass has been measured at temperatures between 1.7-100K for various dopant concentrations. The system is paramagnetic with magnetic susceptibilities that are only weakly temperature dependent down to approx25K, below which a slight increase can be observed. It has been found that chi (100K) decreases substantially with increasing hydrogen content. This behavior is primarily attributed to reductions in the density of the Fermi level electronic states. The form and magnitude of the observed anomalous temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility are in agreement with recent electron interaction theories, which predict quantum corrections to the susceptibility. Hydrogen has been found to influence strongly the quantum-mechanical interference at defects, thus slowing down the spin diffusion and enhancing the susceptibility at low temperature. |
