Summary: | Biocompatibility of newly developed dressings consisting of different chitosan salts (chitosan lactate, glutamate and chloride) and a chitosan derivative (methylpyrrolidinone chitosan) was compared with 3 commercial dressings of collagen, calcium alginate and gelatin by evaluation in a fibroblast cell culture system. 3 experimental models reflecting relevant stages of wound healing were used, and the significant influence of the experimental setting on the results was demonstrated. Methylpyrrolidinone chitosan and collagen were the most compatible materials and chitosan lactate as well as the 3 commercial products performed satisfactorily. (Original abstract-amended) |
