Summary: | Probiotics have been found to be beneficial to the host health by improving the endogenous flora. Traditionally, probiotics have been associated with gastrointestinal tract, however recently several investigators have suggested use of probiotics for oral health. The aim of the present study was to review published studies regarding probiotics and their effects on oral cavity. Studies citing the use of probiotics in caries, periodontal diseases, halitosis and oral candidiasis were identified. Most authors have concluded that the use of probiotics is associated with improvement in oral health. |
