Description
Summary:This thesis describes the development and testing of a He3 cooled, superconducting nanowire bolometer. Superconducting nanowire bolometers are a new detector technology useful in the sub-millimeter to the millimeter band of astronomical observations. The results presented show a measured noise level of 3.9 ± 0.2 × 10-17 W/[special characters omitted], responsivity of 9.0 ± 0.1 × 109 V/W, calculated energy resolution approaching 1:1000 at 100 μm, and a projected fast time response (1 ns).
