Description
Summary:Thirteen excavation campaigns at Clazomenae in Ionia have brought to light extensive material. This work concerns the study of the finds and the architectural remains belonging to the archaic period (650-500). Clearly stratified deposits at the site provide ample sequences of ceramics and other finds. The assemblage of the finds and the architectural remains related with them permit the reconstruction of the relative sequence of major phases in the history of the city and the socio-economic life of the community. Discussion of the stratigraphy of buildings, finds and chronology constitute the main core of this study. The results obtained from the recent excavations also permit to trace and evaluate the long-term effect of the Persian wars on Ionians. The outcome of this war is reflected itself in the partial abandonments of the site that took place before 550 and following the so-called Ionian Revolt at 499/4.
