Description
Summary:Objective: To describe the knowledge of the professionals involved in the prenatal care to normal risk women (doctor, nurse and dentist) regarding the oral health during pregnancy. Method: An integrational review of literature was conducted. The bibliographic review was carried out using Medline, Lilacs and SciELO for the term February-March 2019. The PICO technique was used to ask the driving question and the Prisma checklist was used to extract and organize the studies. The selection was carried out independently by two authors. The review targeted original articles dealing with the knowledge of those professionals working in the prenatal care regarding the oral health during pregnancy. Results: Twelve articles were obtained from the search, which dealt with different professional categories related to the prenatal care. The categorization allowed the construction of three large thematic areas that fed the analysis of the described knowledge: oral health under an approach including the dentist’s accompaniment in the prenatal care; to educate them in oral health and adverse results from the pregnancy; and any perceived weakness and its potential solution(s). Conclusion: This work confirmed some limitations in the knowledge of the prenatal care suppliers regarding the relation between oral health and pregnancy. The foregoing indicates the need to carry out studies, discussions and professional training on this topic in order to strengthen the interdisciplinarity in the prenatal care.
