Description
Summary:AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:To study effects of Oligohydramnios on (1) fetal outcome in form of (a) Growth restriction (b) Fetal distress (c) APGAR scores of newborn babies (d) NICU admission and to study early neonatal morbidity and mortality (2) To study maternal morbidity in form of induced labour and operative delivery. Methods :Study Design:Hospital based prospective studyStudy Setting:MVJ MEDICAL COLLEGE &REASEARCH HOSPITALStudy Period:For 2 years from November 2016 to October 2018Study Population: A prospective study on the of 100cases regarding maternal and perinatal outcome in pregnancies >34 weeks gestation with amniotic fluid index < 5 cm & control group of 100 cases with amniotic fluid index > 5cms will be carried out in MVJ MEDICAL COLLEGE & REASEARCH HOSPITALfor 2 years from Nov 2016 to October 2018.Oligohydramnios is defined as AFI < 5 cm (n = 100), Normal as AFI 5.1-24 cm (n = 100). Women with AFI > 24 cm were not included in the study. In all patients, AFI was evaluated Sonographically using Voluson 730 Pro machine, with Transabdominal Curvilinear probe of 5 to 8 Hz.RESULTS :Meconium stained amniotic fluid, instrumental deliveries, cesarean delivery for fetal distress, low APGAR scores at 1 and 5 mins. NICU admissions occurred more often in oligohydramnios group.CONCLUSION :The AFI for detecting Oligohydramnios is a valuable screening test for fetal wellbeing, subsequent fetal distress requiring emergency delivery.
