Description
Summary:TO BE A RAPE is a call and cry. It is an intimate telling of violence — one that is situated between both; a singular act, and cultural consciousness. TO BE A RAPE is counted, recounted, and counted again through the form of voice and body. Set in present-day Pakistan, it emerges from mythology, folklore and song to current affairs, newspapers, and the internet. Rooted in South Asian origin and occurring within a polyvocal landscape, the choir of women and witches, sisters and ghosts reach out from the past, from inside tombs and outside murals to tell you they are still living. Their desire is not of vengeance, their desire is not of violence. The desire is freedom. A sort that arrives after one daringly speaks the unspeakable and that is to say THEY WILL NOT BE SHAMED INTO SILENCE No Longer.
