The purpose of performing diagnostic nasal endoscopy in patients with chronic suppurative otitis media is to identify any predisposing factors that are leading to the development of CSOM. The management of chronic ear disease has undergone considerable technical advances during the past 40 years. This is mainly because of the use of operating microscope, electrical drill, microsurgical instruments and extensive practical training of temporal bone surgery in addition to the development of broad spectrum antibiotics, but still there is failure of surgery in certain cases of CSOM. The main etiopathology leading to chronic ear disease lies is the nose & nasopharynx in most of the cases. Therefore to rule out any abnormalities in the nose & nasopharynx diagnostic nasal endoscopy was performed on all patients with CSOM to prevent failure of surgery in chronic suppurative otitis media.In the present study an attempt is made to identify the abnormalities in nose and nasopharynx through diagnostic nasal endoscopy in cases of CSOM.The study was conducted from January 2015 to November 2016. Otological symptoms, clinical findings were recorded in 100 cases of chronic suppurative otitis media with active discharge that came to our OPD at Government ENT hospital, Visakhapatnam. Diagnostic nasal endoscopy was performed in all these 100 cases of chronic suppurative otitis media using 30 degree 4 mm nasal endoscope.
