Mass migration of population in the Indo-Pakistan sub-continent, the decision not to devalue the currency in 1949, hostilities in Korea, devaluation of the rupee in 1954, occasional drought and flood, and the Government policy of changing in a short period from an agricultural to a semi-industrialized country are some of the main factors which have affected the economy.
