Description
Summary:This study was done to determine the effect of leadership style on teacher job satisfaction and what type leadership style would be most conducive to creating a positive working relationship between principals and teachers and an atmosphere for excellence to flourish. More specifically, data was evaluated to determine if the percentage of teachers who report they are satisfied with their jobs will approximate the percentage of administrators who are perceived by teachers as Theory Y Leaders. One hundred fifty Holly Area School teachers responded to a staff survey done by Oakland Schools in May of 1984. Data was compiled from teacher responses on 14 items from the survey identified to measure McGregor Theory Y leadership style. In addition, using theoretical framework derived from Maslow and Herzberg, 20 items were selected from the survey to measure job satisfaction.
