The optimal Tm3+ concentration, shell thickness and composition respectively are 2 mol%, 6.5 nm and inert NaYF4. In comparison with Yb/Tm:NaYF4 nanocrystals, the luminescence intensity of Yb/Tm:NaYF4@NaYF4 core/shell nanocrystals enhances about 160 times.
