Summary: | [...]SEP-1 also requires measurement of central venous pressure (CVP) and oxygen saturation (ScvO2), which three recent multicenter RCTs showed did not benefit septic patients. Because of this lack of consistency, we systematically reviewed the scientific evidence provided in the CMS Specification Manual to support SEP-1's other hemodynamic interventions. CMS, at odds with their stated standards for PMs, now mandates that healthcare providers document the use of unproven sepsis interventions and soon will base hospital reimbursement on completion of these interventions. [...]evidence is available, SEP-1 should be modified to only include interventions scientifically proven to improve sepsis outcomes. |
