Summary: | In the Turkish culture and art, which has a long tradition, there are symbol groups which are rich and deeply meaningful. The most popular group of symbolic groups is undoubtedly the animal symbol group that is stylized in Turkish art under the name of animal style. For this reason, there are many animals symbolized in Turkish culture and art. However, since it is determined that each animal is a research topic in its own right when considering the limitation of the subject and it is determined that the rooster / chicken is not specifically examined in terms of the reflections of Turkish art, it is important in the field research and it was investigated under the title of "Reflections of Rooster / Chicken Symbolism in Turkish Culture and Art in Contemporary Painting Art." In this context, it is understood that the rooster / chicken figures are among the artifacts derived from the Pazyryk tombs from Proto-Turk or Hun era, as well as being used as one of the animals that symbolized a year in the Turkish Calendar With Twelve Animals. Many rooster / chicken figurines were encountered in the miniature, line, fresco, mine, wood, stone and carpet arts of Seljuk and Ottoman period, especially the miniatures of Varka and Gülşah which are among the most favorite works of Seljuk art and Hümayunname and Zübdetü't Tevarih miniatures of Ottoman art. In the reviews that made, it was understood that the rooster / chicken figures was maintained in the area of culture and art with traditional symbolic meanings in both Seljuk and Ottoman periods. As a result of the research, it was seen that the rooster / chicken figures especially lost their popularity in the process of art from the beginning of the Ottoman westernization period to the 1950s after the Republic. In the 1950s, it was understood that with the beginning of the orientation towards traditional sources in the Turkish painting, the rooster / chicken motif, which is the subject of many cultural motifs in many painters' works, sometimes took place as symbolic meaning in traditional culture and sometimes as a means of plastic expression. However, considering the limitations of the subject, examples of works of Cevat Dereli, Fikret Mualla, Mehmet Pesen, Orhan Peker, Şeref Bigalı and İsmail Avcı were examined and evaluated from the painters who had stable works within the scope of the research topic. |
