Summary: | This article analyzes the use of remittances by recipient families in Mexico. The results show regional differences, in the sense that the migratory tradition of a region explains that a greater proportion of remittances are intended for business investment. Two facts favor this relationship: the higher age of migrants and heads of households receiving remittances (which, therefore, are in a more advanced stage of the life cycle of savings), and the greater development of the institutions involved in the migration process. The data used for this analysis comes from the Encuesta Nacional de Ingresos y Gastos de los Hogares (ENIGH) and from interviews with the resident colony of Guanajuato in California, United States. |
