Summary:Crimea peninsula, is of strategic importance, has been located in Ukraine after the Cold War. Ukraine gave an autonomous status due to various reasons. On the other hand different ethnic groups are living in Crimea. One of these groups is Crimean Tatar Turks. Crimean Tatar Turks, the indigenous people of the peninsula, hold the status of national minority. After the recent developments in Crimea, Ukraine has also given the status of indigenous people to Crimean Tatar Turks. This paper looks into the status of Crimea and the Crimean Tatar Turks. Moreover, in the process of Russian Federation's invasion of Crimea, some of the resolutions and the decisions taken by the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the authorities of Ukraine will be evaluated in terms of law.
