Anisotropy of the thermal conductivity of YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7 minus y
The thermal conductivity, both in-plane ({kappa}{sub {ital ab}}) and out-of-plane ({kappa}{sub {ital c}}), has been measured in 90-K'' crystals of YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{ital y}} from 10 to 330 K. {kappa}{sub {ital ab}} displays an 18 to 40% increase below the transition tempera...

Summary: | The thermal conductivity, both in-plane ({kappa}{sub {ital ab}}) and out-of-plane ({kappa}{sub {ital c}}), has been measured in 90-K'' crystals of YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{ital y}} from 10 to 330 K. {kappa}{sub {ital ab}} displays an 18 to 40% increase below the transition temperature {ital T}{sub {ital c}} (as in ceramic data). {kappa}{sub {ital c}}, however, is four to five times smaller and shows no anomaly at {ital T}{sub {ital c}}. Comparing these results to {kappa}{sub {ital ab}} of insulating crystals, we find evidence for very strong but highly anisotropic electron-phonon coupling in the normal state. Our results are consistent with a phonon origin for the peak in {kappa}{sub {ital ab}}. |
