Theoretical investigation of a 10 μm free electron laser amplifier using a 50 MeV multi kA electron beam

This work presents theroretical calculations describing the application of an electron beam of 50 MeV energy and several kA current to a free electron laser (FEL) experiment at 10.6 um signal wavelength. The device is a single pass, high gain amplifier utilizing a planar wiggler with field strength...

Description
Summary:This work presents theroretical calculations describing the application of an electron beam of 50 MeV energy and several kA current to a free electron laser (FEL) experiment at 10.6 um signal wavelength. The device is a single pass, high gain amplifier utilizing a planar wiggler with field strength B w decreasing with distance down the device. We discuss the critical role of beam emittance in determining the required input laser energy and gain of the amplifier.
