Description
Summary:We propose a simple and predictive connection control scheme for on-board packet switching satellite systems. The algorithms are motivated by the large propagation delay and low computational capabilities inherent in satellite communication systems. We develop an algorithm that uses prediction of individual cell loss ratio (ILR/sub m/,) for connection control and buffer allocation. We also apply our "sliding-window" maximum likelihood (ML) estimation and prediction scheme to dimension buffer capacity using a fluid model. The numerical and simulation results obtained suggest that proposed predictive scheme is a promising approach for real time connection control and buffer dimensioning.
