Analysis of microstructure of superconductive materials with the use of scanning acoustic microscope

The microstructure of ytterbium, holmium, and yttrium ceramics was investigated using a reflection acoustic microscope. Acoustic images of surface and subsurface layers were obtained with a resolution of <or=1 mu m. The interpretation of the images is given. Estimates of Rayleigh wave velocity on...

Description
Summary:The microstructure of ytterbium, holmium, and yttrium ceramics was investigated using a reflection acoustic microscope. Acoustic images of surface and subsurface layers were obtained with a resolution of <or=1 mu m. The interpretation of the images is given. Estimates of Rayleigh wave velocity on the surface of single crystallites were obtained using V(z) curves. The results illustrate the prospects of using acoustic microscopy for the investigation of the microstructure of high-temperature superconductive ceramics and for the measurement of the local elastic properties of such materials.< >
