Summary: | The possible advantage of non-caloric sweeteners (NCS) resides in the replacement of the energy of the sugars added. Their consumption has become more widespread worldwide in all age groups, including children. Among many other factors, this situation contributes to an increase in body weight and population obesity. To cut back on calories without sacrificing the sweetness of food, drink and the quantity of free sugars present in these goods, a lot of people decide to switch from sugary foods to ones that contain non-caloric sweeteners to preserve the sweetness of foods and beverages while lowering their calorie count and quantity of free sugars. Common in our diet, sugar also plays a significant role in some health issues, such as obesity and an increase in dental disorders in both adults and children. Low maximal sweetness response is usually the limiting factor in the taste quality of both natural and synthetic non-caloric sweeteners, linering sweet feelings, and modifying the gustatory system. Results published in various scientific publications seem contradictory; some report an advantageous relationship between using non-caloric sweeteners, body weight and energy intake, while others suggest that replacing sugar with these additives may result in a decrease in caloric intake and body weight. This article's main objective was to examine the research on the effects of non-caloric sweeteners on health |
