Summary:	This article aims to analyze takbir, an important concept of fiqh al-ibadah by comparing its understanding by scholars of the various schools of islamic law. Historically, scholars have had different opinions about this concept. The variations in understanding among scholars are generally due to differences of transmissions, differences of interpretations, and differences in the value assigned to the opinion of a Companion of the Prophet.
