Description
Summary:Curcumin, a bioactive component of Curcuma Longa L., has several biological and pharmacological properties and its use has been documented in the treatment of diabetes and its complications. The objective of this integrative literature review was to analyze the bibliographic production, of randomized studies on the effect of long turmeric, curcuminoids or curcumin, on the biochemical and anthropometric parameters of adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DMT2). To survey the articles, the following databases were used: Cochrane Library, Medline, Lilacs and SciELO. After applying the eligibility criteria, nine articles published between 2012 and 2019 covered the guiding question of the study. The results of the analysis showed evidence of the benefits of using Turmeric Long L powder, curcuminoids and curcumin, as an adjunct in the treatment of patients with T2DM, due to its antioxidant effect and improvement in the lipid, glycemic profile and anthropometric parameters, weight and index of body mass.
