Summary:This study aims to describe the implementation of modern nursing in Brazil, as well as to discuss its importance in the current pandemic scenario. It is a narrative review through studies located in the Web of Science, Scielo, Google Scholar, and Pubmed databases. The origins and evolution of care throughout the history of nursing, from its beginnings to the development of environmental theory by Florence Nightingale, which represented a theoretical framework for modern nursing. Key-words: history of nursing; environmental theory; Florence Nightingale. Covid-19. O objetivo deste estudo e descrever a implantacao da Enfermagem moderna no Brasil, bem como discutir sua importancia no atual cenario de pandemia. Trata de uma revisao narrativa por meio de estudos localizados nas bases de dados Web of Science, Scielo, Google Scholar e Pubmed. As origens e a evolucao do cuidado ao longo da historia da enfermagem, desde seus primordios ate o desenvolvimento da teoria ambientalista por Florence Nightingale, o qual representou um marco teorico para a enfermagem moderna.
