Summary: | Since their inception, video games have maintained a close relationship with cinema, leveraging their popularity to engage new audiences. In recent years, the aesthetics of cinema and video games have merged, creating a new hybrid form known as machinima. This virtual universe, where various artistic forms intersect, appeals to younger generations. Machinimas, designed for distribution, sharing, and sparking conversations, enable players to become creators, turning video games into tools for story development and artistic expression. The creation of machinima demands a variety of specialized skills, such as scenario creation, dialogue writing, storyboarding, and effective use of images, objects, and settings. This process validates the use of machinimas in education, offering a practical and instructive way to apply the skills necessary for their production. This article seeks to explore the interplay between video games and cinema, and to discuss the benefits and challenges of incorporating machinima into foreign language teaching, especially within a task-based teaching and learning. |
