| Summary: | This paper objectified a theoretical reflection over the meanings of the body, relating them, through the literature, to the probable effects of limb amputation on the human being. Thus, records on the meanings of the body through history were reviewed, approaching a phenomenological view. The importance of the body in na individual’s life was considered as it has been his/her way to set a relationship with the word. Besides, the meaning of being disabled in our context was also approached. |
