Description
Summary:This study aims to reflect on Discourse Traditions (DT). We demonstrated how a field of research that is concerned with different discourse representations through the diachronic axis and therefore that always deals with the dynamic mechanism between permanence and change of those pragmatic-discursive forms has been itself formed by a similar process before Coserian ideas. This work examines some of their traits and reflects on the innovations brought by DT and concludes that their contribution stems initially from their methodological arrangement and not from their theoretical model, which were primarily based on premises already developed by Coșeriu (2007). Finally, we analyzed, according to DT principles, four letters taken out from a diachronic corpus (1713-1931) resulting in an interesting comprehension of what the term “official letters” means, besides a peculiar description of the aforementioned letters.
