Description
Summary:It has been over 70 years since Qutadγu Bilig was edited. During this time, many new readings and explanations have been presented about this edition and edition’s index. In edition every problematic word must be reconsidered. The scholarly edition of Qutadgu Bilig was edited by Räšit Rahmäti ARAT in 1947. This edition is based on three manuscripts of this work. ARAT successfully prepared this edition after a long endeavour. When we look at the general view of the text, it is not much of an example that one reading is the same in three manuscripts. It has been a great misfortune for us that ARAT’s notes about this edition cannot reach to us. It should be appreciated that each problematic reading is explained in this edition. A lot of research has been done and monographies have been written regarding Qutadγu Bilig, however, only few of these were about its text and manuscripts. There has a series of words written as YYK in Qutadγu Bilig. Two different YYK’s, with meaning of ‘better’ and meaning of the ‘raw’, were registered in the same entry of Qutadγu Bilig index. Looking at this entry, it can be thought that the two words are the same, but these words are different from each other. It will be analysed comprehensive in verses where the two words are different from each other.
