Summary: | The objective of the article is contribute to a theoretical-critical framework that discusses economic development in an articulated way to the process of regional integration in Latin America. For this purpose, we reviewed the historical evolution of Latin American ideas on the regionalism-development binomial, with emphasis on the contribution of Latin American structuralism from authors associated with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). After a brief introduction, this paper is divided into three sections. The second section addresses the importance of the contexts – historical, regional, and international – to think in a structuralist perspective the productive structures, the economic-social asymmetries, and the underdevelopment that characterize the region. In the third part, we present in greater detail the concept of interventionist regionalism, based on the Latin American Common Market of ECLAC. In the fourth part, we present our final remarks. |
