Summary:Education is considered as the most important element to the nations’ growth, and therefore a critical factor for their development. Thus, the article wants to analyze the importance of distance education as a bridge of integration and development to MERCOSUR’s countries. This is a theoretical essay. Therefore, as parameters to reflection data and information were collected in scientific studies, major international organizations, projects developed in others economics blocs, as well as data obtained in the MERCOSUR countries. The study’s results indicate that the stimulus to the creation of an integrated program for expansion of distance education in MERCOSUR is extremely important and has great potential, which may have a huge development. It is known that the program should consider an education that addresses local characteristics, paying attention to the regional and global issues, encouraging, therefore, the citizens’ formation with a worldwide commitment. It is concluded that distance education can help to the nations’ integration and development, as well as the internationalization of education institutions, through student’s exchange, teachers and staff, among other advantages.
