Summary:Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder which occurs due to absolute or relative deficiency of insulin hormone and the diabetic patients are more prone to develop stroke, heart attack, kidney failure, blindness, coronary artery disease, neuropathy and gangrene. Increased uric acid levels in serum are one of the metabolic abnormalities associated with diabetes mellitus type 2. Objectives: The purpose of the research is to assess the status of serum uric acid in non-diabetic and diabetic subjects. Study Design: Cross Sectional Comparative study. Setting: Department of Medicine Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Karachi. Period: Feb 2018 till September 2018. Material & Methods: A total of 80 subjects of both sexes were taken and divided into two groups. Fasting glucose levels, serum uric acid were performed by enzymatic method. Results: This study showed significantly raised levels of serum uric acid and Fasting blood glucose (FBS) in diabetic type 2 subjects when compared to non-diabetic subjects(p<0.01). Conclusion: The results of the present study suggests that compared to non‐diabetic subject’s diabetic subjects have significantly higher level of uric acid.
