Summary: | We appreciate the comments of Moskowitz et al regarding our hypothesis of intralymphatic air entrapment in persistent pulmonary interstitial emphysema of the newborn. It is true that electron microscopy was not carried out in our tissue specimens. There is, however, substantial indirect evidence, in addition to morphologic features by light microscopy, lending support to our thesis that relatively large amounts of interstitial gas dissect into lymphatics and set up events leading to persistent interstitial pulmonary emphysema in ventilated newborns. |
