Measurement of the spin structure function g(1)(x, Q(2)) of the proton in the resonance region

Summary: | Inclusive double spin electron asymmetries have been measured by scattering polarized electrons off the solid polarized 15NH 3 target in Hall B of Jefferson Lab in 2000--2001. The virtual photon asymmetry A1(x), the longitudinal spin structure function, g1(x, Q 2), and the first moment, Gp1 , have been evaluated for a kinematic range of 0.05 ≥ Q 2 ≤ 4.5 GeV2. The extracted results complement the existing data in the resonance region, and extend it to lower and higher Q2 regions. The results are important in the study of Q2 evolution of nucleon structure from the hadronic to partonic degrees of freedom. |
