Summary: | Whatever our concerns about the political manipulation of the disaster, few would deny that 9/1 f, with all its discourses and complexities, has had a severe hand in shaping this ethnographic moment and many more to come, and few would deny that vernacular culture recognizes 9/11 as a critical defining, world changing, life changing point, in personal and collective history. To not write, and to not put extra thought into the social, political, historical, and human rights implications and ramifications of our words, would indeed be so September the 10th.\n Consistent with contemporary legend and rumor scholarship, these studies concentrate less on debunking rumors and more on exploring the function, nature, formation, and performance contexts of narrative to understand the specific shape of anti-Muslim sentiment and vernacular response to the crisis. |
