Summary:My IRB often struggles with trying to determine what the “standard of care” is for the diseases and conditions for which clinical studies are being performed. This becomes an issue for us both in determining what the actual risks of the research participation are, and also in trying to make sure potential participants are informed about expenses they might incur for things that are considered “non-standard.” Can you help us determine a systematic way to consider this issue?
