Summary: | National trends for greener construction and stormwater management are resulting in changes in design and requirements for stormwater Best Practices (BMPs). Practices such as porous bioretention areas, and rainwater recovery are more common at sites across the country, with the designs and specifications evolving as the demand Situations occur where regulations and LID site requirements are being put in place before the site condition information that is necessary to the requirements for LID designs, and maintenance needs have been collected. This discusses how site conditions drove stormwater designs and implementation on three different sites. The projects include: a suburban/rural use project on a green-field site, a dense development built on a former gravel pit site; an urban mixed-use redevelopment on a highly City of Boston site. While local review processes required specific LID practices for stormwater site conditions resulted in either modifications elimination of certain LID practices, especially relying on recharge. Additionally, the need for site condition information very early in the stage was required. For each site, modifications the details/designs/specifications and operation maintenance plans for specific LID BMPs based on conditions were required. No standardized details applicable for all sites. |
