A rapid procedure for detecting recombinant plasmids using butanol extraction

A convenient procedure using butanol to extract DNA from bacteria is described. This procedure is suitable for rapidly screening a large number of bacterial cultures for recombinant plasmid DNA without the need for further purification and expensive chemicals.
