Description
Summary:Between 1979 and 1984, 46 patients, 23 males and 23 females, with carcinoma of the paranasal sinuses were treated at the Institute of Oncology in Ljubljana. A great majority of tumours were in an advanced stage of disease. 21 patients were operated on and all except one were postoperatively irradiated. Radiotherapy was the main treatment in the remaining 25 patients. 14 patients (30%) survived more than five years with no evidence of disease. Patients treated by a combination of surgery and postoperative radiotherapy survived significantly better (12/20-60%) than those treated by irradiation alone (2/25-8%), p less than 0.001. Patient's age and radicality of surgery also influenced the treatment results.
