Summary: | A commentary on Klaus Schleicher's (1991) ideas regarding the need for global awareness in education. Drawing from pragmatist philosophy, it is argued that action precedes knowledge; therefore educating on topics irrelevant to students' situations is not necessarily worthwhile. It is proposed that in addition to educating on global issues, an effort must be made to dispel stereotypes. Denationalization & imposition of uniform standards internationally would enhance students' understanding of world events, thereby transforming global awareness into a valuable educational topic. S.
