Summary:We used CS-807 in the treatment of urinary tract infections to investigate its clinical efficacy and safety. The subjects were: 33 patients with acute uncomplicated cystitis, 2 with acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis, 56 with chronic complicated urinary tract infections, 4 with urethritis. The following results were obtained. 1) Clinical efficacy in acute uncomplicated cystitis, applying the Japanese UTI Committee's“Criteria for Evaluation of Drug Efficacy in UTI”was: excellent in 23 patients, moderate in one patient; the overall clinical efficacy rate being 100%. In 44 patients with chronic complicated urinary tract infections: excellent in 22 patients, moderate in 8 patients, poor in 14 ; the overall efficacy rate being 68%. 2) Bacteriologically, 24 out of 24 strains (100%) were eradicated in acute uncomplicated cystitis and 47 of 67 strains (73%) in chronic complicated urinary tract infections. 3) The results of assessment by the doctor in change were: excellent in 2 patients with acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis, and excellent and moderate in 2 patients each with urethritis. 4) As to side-effects, heartburn was observed in one patient, but no abnormal laboratory findings.
