Description
Summary:The influence of two different soil preparation methods (tilt ploughing and full tilling with disc plough) on the concentration of Fe, Al, Zn and Cd in leaves of Betula pubescens Ehrh. and B. pendula Roth. and Maianthemum bifolium (L.) F.W. Schmidt was studied in the experimental areas of the Finnish Forest Research Institute in Kuru, Central Finland. Elevated levels of Al, Fe and Zn were noted in the leaves of birches growing in tilled areas. As for Al and Zn, the difference found between the areas tilled by using the two methods of soil preparation was not statistically significant. In the case of iron, however, a significantly higher concentration was found in the full tilled areas than in the tilt ploughed and untilled areas. The tilling of the soil had no effect on the metal concentration of the leaves of M. bifolium.
