Efficient modelling of rain field microwave attenuation and doppler noise for different drop size distributions

Description
Summary:This work presents strategies to significantly improve the numerical efficiency and the accuracy of a simulator for electromagnetic scattering by rain which considers every single rain drop within a given volume. By also considering power extinction the rain-rate dependent signal attenuation is modeled in addition to the rain-rate dependent noise. In order to improve the efficiency of Mie scattering computation the evaluation of Bessel functions has been accelerated. Furthermore this paper presents investigations for downsizing the total simulation volume while retaining the signal's statistical properties.
