Summary: | LTE-Advanced made it possible to benefit from beamforming in the communication protocol to enhance signal to noise ratio and to increase power efficiency in mobile equipment and in base stations. In 5G, this feature became a must in the emerging New Radio (NR). The communication between each base station and mobile equipment is intended to be beam based. The base stations then should be extensively equipped with beam-management protocols. One of the important functions of the beam management controllers is to estimate the direction of arrival of the mobile equipment. In this paper, several direction of arrival algorithms are studied and evaluated to find what algorithms are convenient to be part of beamforming strategy in LTE-Advanced and 5G. |
