Summary: | Antenna array systems are important components of modern radar and wireless communication systems. By controlling the array through a real-time optimization process, the adaptive techniques diminish the impact of system component noise and mitigate the effects of interfering radiation to ensure the delivery of a maximum fidelity signal. This paper deals with the possibilities to cancel unwanted signals by steering nulls of the pattern in the direction of high interference without affecting the main beam. We propose a null steering beamforming algorithm allowing us to suppress the interference based on the genetic algorithm (GA). The method used to calculate the position perturbations of selected elements is based on minimization of the power at the null locations and the power fluctuation in the main beam. The proposed null steering beamforming algorithm and the adaptive null steering method are compared with respect to the initial pattern using complex weights. We find that the proposed null steering beamforming algorithm possesses the better performance. Computer simulation shows the effectiveness of the proposed beamforming algorithm for wireless communication systems. |
