Description
Summary:A pentaband corrugated patch antenna has been proposed in this article. By introducing a rectangular split ring resonator (SRR) along with a partial ground structure (PGS) an electromagnetic coupling has been crafted. These additional optimized arrangements of SRR & EBG resulted in better return loss and five resonant bands. This antenna has been designed over a FR4 Epoxy substrate of dimension 20\times 20\times 1.6 mm 3 with relative permittivity 4.4 and dielectric loss tangent 0.02. The five major operational bands, 7.09-7.49 GHz, 8.61-8.96 GHz, 9.70-10.26 GHz, 10.87-11.27 GHz and 11.42-11.87 GHz, has all return loss more than −17 dB at center frequencies with a maximum of −31 dB at 9.95 GHz. The peak realized gain of 3.84 dB has been observed at a frequency 10.02 GHz in the resonant frequency band. The highest radiation efficiency (i.e. 83%) marked at 11.87 GHz in upper X band range. This proposed antenna has applications in Radar, satellite downlink & satellite TV in C band, military communication, downlink & uplink in X band communications and broadcast in tropical rainfall region.
