Description
Summary:In the search for efficient and reliable non- permanent magnet generator solutions for variable-speed wind generation systems, this paper proposes a multi three-phase converter-fed wound rotor synchronous generator for large- scale wind turbines. The focus is on geared, medium-speed wind generators. The stator winding of the generator has non- overlapping coils with a 16/18 pole/slot combination. As a first step towards experimentally proving the effectiveness of the proposed concept, finite element analysis was performed on a small-scale wound rotor synchronous generator. The findings of the study show that the proposed wind energy system is feasible and efficient for large-scale wind turbines.
