Description
Summary:The achievement of a robust and prompt response in an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) system presents a significant challenge as a result of the high inductance of synchronous generator (SG) windings. Considering the importance of improving AVR performance, it is essential to utilize an appropriate control technique in order to achieve this goal. In this paper an MPC base controller for AVR is improved for an AVR system and compared to the existing Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) based AVR designed as my previous work to improve the performance of an AVR. Based on the comprehensive analysis of the available literature, it can be inferred that the exploration of advanced control systems, specifically the Model Predictive Controller (MPC), has not been thoroughly examined within the current corpus of scholarly works. In this work the MPC controller is optimized using MATLAB Simulink. In order to assess the performance of these controllers, we take into account metrics such as the integral of the absolute error (IAE) and the integral of the squared error (ISE) rise time (Tr), settling time (Ts) and the response time has been reduced to 0.4 seconds hence the terminal voltage of a synchronous generator is restored to 1pu in 0.4 seconds.
