Summary: | As electric vehicle (EV) adoption increases, they make up increasingly larger portions of the US's electricity consumption. Because of this, much attention is focused addressing the management of the EV fleet the power sector. EV aggregation, a well-investigated tool for managing the increase in electricity demand from EV, takes place when an intermediary to manages electricity flow between power providers and EV owners. With effective implementation, aggregation benefits power grids by relieving electrical loads. Specific benefits are peak shaving, which in turn often lowers emissions, electricity costs, and consumer prices. In addition to the frequently discussed benefits, this review seeks to appropriately highlight the broad vulnerabilities of EV aggregation alongside its benefits, namely those regarding battery degradation, rebound peaks, and cybersecurity. This holistic overview of EV aggregation provides insight for balancing expectations with realistic performance. |
