Description
Summary:A 300 kV accelerator power supply (APS) is being developed at IPR. Transformer bushings for this application need to withstand DC stresses also. Condenser-type bushings with oil-impregnated paper (OIP) insulation are conventionally used for general transformer applications. Though their behavior under AC voltage is widely known, literature on the oil-paper insulation characteristics under DC is less explored. Hence, the DC stresses in the OIP bushing need to be analyzed under different service conditions that may occur due to the ageing effect of oil and paper. In this paper, the field stress in a 145 kV OIP bushing along critical boundaries such as oil-paper, oil-porcelain, air-porcelain, etc. under AC as well as DC voltage has been presented. The effect of external air pollution, which is highly critical in DC operation, has also been analyzed and presented.
